Course Syllabus

Each session will combine practice, instruction, talks, and connection.

Week 1: Introduction to and Overview of Mindfulness

An introduction to the history and context of mindfulness. We’ll establish our “home base” using the breath and explore how to begin a daily practice.

Week 2: Mindfulness of Body

Moving beyond the breath to the felt sensations of the body. We’ll practice mindful eating and walking, learning to stay present in our physical skin.

Week 3: Working with Pleasure / Pain and Challenges in Meditation

Learning how to stay steady when things are difficult (or even when they are very pleasant). We’ll discuss common challenges in meditation and how to meet them with curiosity.

Week 4: Mindfulness of Emotion

Using the R.A.I.N. method to navigate our emotional landscape with understanding and care, rather than being swept away by it.

Week 5: Mindfulness of Thought / Mental Processes

A look at our mental processes, including the “Inner Critic” and negativity bias. We’ll practice witnessing thoughts without getting caught in the story.

Week 6: Cultivating Kindness / Taking the Practice Home

A review of our journey, focusing on Loving-Kindness (Metta) and how to weave these tools into the fabric of your daily life.

Make the ordinary extraordinary

  • Mindfulness is the ceaseless, inclusive orientation of one’s awareness to the immediate truths of the present moment.

    Just folding laundry.

    Just listening.

    Just walking the dog.

It’s an invitation to inhabit the body completely.
